Pieces 02:40
Can you hear the rain fall / Beating out a rhythm on the city wall / Bad news for the traders on the market stall, they won’t sell a thing // Taxi driver beeps a horn / Waking up a baby only newly born / It’s a drag for the mother who’s feeling worn, she’s been up all night // And a busker plays a wrong chord / Surely confirmation that he’s being ignored / No one notices him fall upon his own sword, it’s a tough old crowd // And the number 7’s running late / All the passengers will have to wait / Or walk in an attempt to take control of fate / But that’s a bold move // God’s laughing when you talk about your future plans / It’s amusing that you still believe it’s in your hands / There are pieces in the puzzle no one understands / But they all fit in somehow, we just can’t see it now // Employees on a ciggy break / Doing their best just stay awake / Talking ‘bout how much they’re prepared to take / But they’ll never leave // And a car parked on a yellow line / Excites a traffic warden who arrives on time / It’s a pity for the man who has to pay the fine, he’s not a rich man // God’s laughing when you talk about your future plans / It’s amusing that you still believe it’s in your hands / There are pieces in the puzzle no one understands / But they all fit in somehow, we just can’t see it now

It was only one drink, an hour and nothing more / At least that was the line that persuaded me out the front door / But my glass was half empty there was nothing I wanted to say / When I feel I’m poor company I’d just as soon be on my way // I was dead on my feet / Made some excuses to leave / But one glance your way put some other ideas up my sleeve // So I bought you a drink / And we were walking home soon / On the bridge we admired the tracks by the light of the moon // And I invited you in for a little more wine / When I realised I’d drank it you told me that milk would be fine // Offered up the spare room / Didn’t want you to leave / But I guess that you thought I had other ideas up my sleeve // And you left me alone / You said that you’d call / But that’s such an old line / I thought it meant nothing at all // But then what happened next / Still find it hard to believe / But I guess sometimes life has some other ideas up its sleeve

Windy Head 03:13
As the snow is falling down / Putting borders of white on every fixture in this town / You hear it crunch beneath your feet / As you walk with eyes wide open full of wonder through the street // Across the graveyard into town / And pay attention to the silence that resides behind the sounds / Of birds singing in the trees / And for a moment you’re distracted from all those bitter memories // Well I hope our love ain’t like the snow / Temporary, soon to go / Fleeting beauty till the sun or rain / Comes to beat it down the drain // But there’s no way of knowing darling how long this can last / I hear that love can stick, it never has in the past / There’s no way of knowing darling it’s just like you said / Especially in such a restless heart, and windy head // So as this canvas starts to melt / And all these colours fade to grey will you still feel the way you felt / As a child in the snow / Or quickly tire as you realise that your feet are getting cold // Don’t answer now just hold your tongue / ‘Cause you don’t know and either way it’s just another song unsung / Well I hope our love ain’t like the snow / Temporary, soon to go / Fleeting beauty till the sun or rain / Comes to beat it down the drain // But there’s no way of knowing darling how long this can last / I hear that love can stick, it never has in the past / There’s no way of knowing darling it’s just like you said / Especially in such a restless heart, and windy head

I still hear my mother’s voice / Call my brother’s name and mine / From the park across the road where we spent most of our time // Now my sister’s calling you / And your little brother home / And I’m standing in the doorway thinking just how much you’ve grown // And I feel a little sad, that you’re growing up too / I know that it’s mad, ‘cause there’s nothing I can do / I just want you to know / It’s all right to refuse / ‘Cause there’s something you’ve got that I don’t want you to lose // When I was young I was just like you / Always playing out in the rain and singing my own tune / But someone beat it out / They’ll try to beat it out of you too // And your attention, I’m aware / Is always here and never there / The moment that you’re in’s the only one for which you care // While I’ve got things weighing on my mind / And my worries all accrue / Well you wouldn’t understand and I hope you never do // And I feel a little sad, that you’re growing up too / I know that it’s mad, cause there’s nothing I can do / I just want you to know / It’s all right to refuse / ‘Cause there’s something you’ve got that I don’t want you to lose // When I was young I was just like you / Always playing out in the rain and singing my own tune / But someone beat it out/ Don’t let them beat it out of you too

The List 04:09
So I guess, on the whole we are getting on well / Although, sometimes I mistake home for hell / When we fall out, it’s always the little things, / And I always shoulder the blame // So I started thinking ‘bout what we should do / To stop things getting out of hand // Then I made a list of the things that I think you should change / What I’m proposing is that you should do just the same // And so here goes, every night you push me to the edge / Of the bed, I can’t sleep and the next day I feel / Half dead, but you won’t accept that my mood is because of you // And by the way, 5 alarms are a bad way to start / The day, for the minute I wake up I feel a strong sense of hostility / When you ask me what you’ve done wrong // So these are the things that I think you should do / To stop things getting out of hand // I made a list of the things that I think you should change / What I’m proposing is that you should do just the same // And I don’t understand when you say that you’re ready / Why I, then wait by the door we’re already late / And if I dare to say something out loud, well you go and give me that look // And one more thing, you never apologise / I’m taken in by the hurt look in your eyes and that’s why it ends / In me saying sorry, when we both know you’re in the wrong // So these are the things that I think you should do / To stop things getting out of hand // I made a list of the things that I think you should change / What I’m proposing is that you should do just the same // I made a list of the things that I think you should change / What I’m proposing is that you should do just the same

You’re so far from home / And everything you’ve ever known / Your faith conquered fear / And a tin can with wings brought you here // To this shore, where you now stand / With your feet buried deep in the sand / And your thoughts, have now been blown / Like the sails of a ship heading home // With your eyes closed / Facing out to the sea / Waves crash like cymbals / Salt rides on the breeze / What do you see // And I know, there’s an ache / Do you think your heart made a mistake / Or are you satisfied / Longing rises and falls with the tide // With your eyes closed / Facing out to the sea / Waves crash like cymbals / Salt rides on the breeze / What do you see // Is it all that you came for? / All that you need? / Am I giving you all you expected from me? / Are you happy to stay here? / Or would you rather leave? / Can you tell me something I need to believe? // With Your Eyes Closed/ Facing out to the sea / Waves crash like cymbals/ Salt rides on the breeze // With your eyes closed / Tell me what you see

Nobody Home 03:25
Every other plan that you’ve made has led to nothing more / Than a black battered heart bleeding dry on a cold cellar floor / Now your curtains are drawn and you’re not taking calls / You’ve fitted new locks and you’ve reinforced walls / And if they get through all that they’ll just find that there’s nobody home // And it’s tough to resist when they’re trying so hard to get in / Through your flesh to your bones under rapidly thickening skin / Now your doorbell won’t sound and your phone’s off the hook / There’s a sign on the door if they’d just care to look / And if they get through all that they’ll just find that there’ nobody home // There’s nobody home / Nobody home / Nobody home / Nobody home // If they get through all that they’ll just find that there’s nobody home // Now your home is a shell ‘cause all of your things have been sold / And the fire’s died out, yeah it’s kept reassuringly cold / Compassion’s worn out, spirit’s thin on the ground / With an ear to the door you still can’t hear a sound / If they get through all that they’ll just find that there’s nobody home // There’s nobody home / Nobody home / Nobody home / Nobody home // If they get through all that they’ll just find that there’s nobody home

1946 and he had just turned 24 / He was looking for some fun after returning from the war / In a brand new demob suit with Brylcreem taming every curl / And moves out on the floor to melt the hearts of pretty girls // She’d been working hard at home, while the men were all away / And dancing with her sister at the Hammersmith Palais / But now the war was over perhaps in answer to her prayers / There was hope in every heart amidst the music in the air // And on ladies’ night every Wednesday / The service men don’t pay / Come pick your man and dance the night away / At the Hammersmith Palais // Well his footwork caught her eye and she thought ‘that man can dance, / But if he thinks he’ll take me home tonight he hasn’t got a chance’ / So she floated ‘cross the dancefloor but before she’d said a thing / He took her by the hand just as the band began to swing // On ladies’ night every Wednesday / The service men don’t pay / Come pick your man and dance the night away / At the Hammersmith Palais // And they danced ‘till closing time, and when the night came to an end / He kissed her on the hand and said I hope we meet again / She said I’ll be here next Wednesday if you care to come along / The Harry Roy Band’s playing and they play my favourite song // On ladies’ night every Wednesday / The service men don’t pay / Come pick your man and dance the night away / At the Hammersmith Palais

Follow You 03:06
Grab the things that you own / Box them up in the hall / And the pictures you framed / Take them down from the walls // And I’ll load up the car / Then we’ll steal away / At the end of the year, at the end of the day // And I know that you might be inclined to worry / That this change might be too much for me to bear / I just know wherever you go I will always, wanna follow you there / I’ll follow you anywhere // And it’s not like we thought / It didn’t work out as planned / But I don’t recall / Drawing lines in the sand // It’s a promise I made / One I’ll take to the grave / And it is what it is // And I know that you might be inclined to worry / That this change might be too much for me to bear / I just know wherever you go I will always, wanna follow you there / I’ll follow you anywhere

Spinning circles in the heart of the city / Finding shelter in the shade / Heat beat down on the paving / Where our feet took the burden again / And in the evening we were tossing and turning / Tired and yearning for rain / Took flight in the darkest of nights, to the Catskill Mountain range // We went out on those hills, we took over their plains / Climbed that old fire tower by the hotel remains // And I’ve never felt any better / I tried to describe it in a letter / And I sent it from Phoenicia but wasn’t sure whether / My words would ever reach you // We took pleasure in being, consequently seeing the stillness it brings / On the porch of a cabin, in the shadow of a mountain of which we were kings / When the time came to leave I truly believed that I could begin / To be free from the binds, the trappings of time, and the thickness of things // We went out on those hills, we took over their plains / Climbed that old fire tower by the hotel remains // And I’ve never felt any better / I tried to describe it in a letter / And I sent it from Phoenicia but wasn’t sure whether / My words would ever reach you

Let Him Go 03:49
Take your time love, it’s slow but it’s steady / I’m not blind I just don’t think you’re ready // ‘Cause you’re holding me like you lost somebody else / I’m asking for your sake and not for myself / Let him go // I know you’re hurt and you’re trying to forget / You’re working through things that you’re not over yet // But don’t hold me while thinking on somebody else / I’m asking for your sake and not for myself / Let him go // God knows I’ve waited for a night such as this / Hard as it is I know I should resist you / While every word that you said may be true / There are still things you need to work through / And there’s no point pretending you don’t know any better, you do // You know I want you, to say that you will / ‘Cause I’ve always loved you, and I love you still // But you’re holding me thinking of somebody else / I’m asking for your sake and not for myself / Let him go // God knows I’ve waited for a night such as this / Hard as it is I know I should resist you / While every word that you said may be true / There are still things you need to work through / And there’s no point pretending you don’t know any better, you do
